~~~Our Misson~~~
Birth Roots removes the obstacles to perinatal health by providing a continuity of community support, education and resources, before, during and after the birth of a child.
~~~Our Purpose~~~

Birth Roots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit perinatal resource center.

Birth Roots encourages families to become fully informed of their birth and parenting support options so that they may participate in and even shape their very personal childbirth experience.

Birth Roots owns and operates an exceptional Childbirth Education Program - offering a full spectrum of prenatal and postpartum classes to the public every month. For more information visit our calendar.

We fulfill our mission by making the following resources more accessible to local families:

  • childbirth education options promoting instinctive birthing and informed parenting
  • doula services for support during hospital, birth center or home birth
  • access to the Ballard House Birth Center facilities
  • home birth options
  • post partum support services that encourage strong family bonds and connected parenting.

~~~Our Philosophy~~~
The work of Birth Roots is grounded in the philosophy that the way people are treated at birth (as a mother, as a newborn child and as a family unit) has lasting affects far beyond that one day. Mothers who feel respected and self-determined in giving birth tend to view themselves as equipped to provide nurturing care as a parent. Fathers who are given tools and modeling for participating in the process of birth tend to be more engaged in their child's developmental stages. Children born in an environment of confidence, awareness and intimacy tend to be more resililient and able to thrive.
With information and support, families are able to make important decisions about the birthing resources that will respond to their emotional and physical needs, ultimately creating more healthy and solid family foundations within our community.
~~~Our Family Tree~~~
